The Nike "swoosh'" was created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, presented as a design option to Blue Ribbon Sports who selected it for their "Nike" brand launch. Co-founder and chairman of BRS, Phil Knight said of the logo at the time, "I don't love it, but I think it will grow on me."
