In 1948, Rudolf Dassler left his brother Adolph in charge of Adidas to set up his own shoe company, Puma.  The logo for his new company incorporated the silhouette of a puma. Redesigned in 1967 by German caricaturist Lutz Backes, the new logo included the puma graphic along with the company name. More recently the logo has been further simplified, featuring Backes' lone puma silhouette.
